LADY BABY

Japan’s quirkiest new music group, are making their international debut at HYPER JAPAN Christmas Market 2015! The combination of Japanese idols and a harder, Metal sound is given an extra edge, both aurally and visually, by the addition of the most unique idol of all. This group smashes all borders, be they gender, nationality, culture, age, or values to create Japanese idols with a new feeling.

LADY BEARD is the “Kawaiicore” frontman of the group. With the slogan of “singing and dancing to destroy”, this former wrestler’s gutteral vocals give the band a little more bite when it comes to the harder side of their music, and his fame has shot skyward via the internet over the last few years. More traditional “kawaii” cuteness is provided by Kuromiya Rei and Kaneko Rie

Appearing at overseas events since 2014, she has been featured in international press and her work is to be shown at the Honolulu Museum of Art. In August 2015, she showcased collaboration work with Sanrio in Taiwan.

NAGOYA FEST 2014

Featuring Three Indie-Pop Girl Groups From Japan
NAGOYA FEST is here! Saturday 17th May! London! Come and celebrate all things Nagoya with THREE indie DIY pop bands straight from one of Japan’s most exciting cities – Nagoya!

We’re very pleased to host the first UK appearance from Cecile Tiger Again, an all girl group fronted by Sayuri Hashimoto – an underground icon in Nagoya where she runs ace indie label abcdefg* records (whose slogan is ‘WE LOVE INDIEPOP! … AND GIRAFFE’) as well P+M Magazine, which handily comes loaded with its own MP3s. She’s also a secret member of Scottish legends BMX Bandits, joining the band occasionally on stage in the UK and Japan.

Back by popular demand is NO CARS, who we’re pretty sure must’ve had at least one member from Nagoya in their career so far. They’ve just released their new album Yoko Makes Tits Bigger With Airbrush and are ready to show it off live with their unique live show. According to their site they are ‘like that band from Kill Bill. Fun, cute, mess’ – which sounds pretty spot on to us.

They’ll be joined on stage by KERO KERO BONITO, whose front-lady was born in Nagoya. Highly influenced by Nakata Yasutaka (Capsule / Perfume / Kyary Pamyu Pamyu), this threesome will bring an extra dose of electronic cuteness to the festivities.

PLUS! Stand up comedy from Nagoya’s Yuriko Kotani – in English!

Location: The Pipeline, 94 Middlesex Street, London, E1 7DA
Price: £5 on the doors.

JAPAN & KOREA: UNITED IN ROCK

LONDON: 12 May 2014

TaO_JirO_Poster_2900ea8

Three award winning artists from Asia will perform a very special showcase set in London for the first time on Monday 12 May 2014. Coming in all the way from Korea is indie rockers Asian Chairshot, produced by Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder, and nominated for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song at the 2014 Korean Music Awards. They’ll be joined by guitar slap heroes TarO&JirO, winners of the Japanese leg of Emergenza, the world’s largest battle of the bands competition. And last, but by no means least, is the award winning singer-songwriter Mayu Wakisaka, fresh from playing this year’s SXSW and The Great Escape Festival. All that, plus authentic Japanese street food, beer, and JAPAN UNDERGROUND’s resident DJ spinning rock, punk and indie tunes from the east all night.

TarO&JirO

Fans of MIYAVI, eat your hearts out. TarO&JirO slap guitars to the power of two! They’ve shared stages with guitar legends such as Scorpions (Rock Oz’Arènes) and Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Steve Morse at the Guitare en Scene in 2012, just to name a few. In 2013 they entered Emergenza, the world’s largest battle-of-the-bands competition and won the 1st place in the Japanese division with their energetic and contagious performance. Soon after they headed to Germany to compete in the Emergenza World Final and although they didn’t win, they still landed 2nd place for best guitarists. Upon their return home they were immediately signed to TEICHIKU Records and dropped their first album Brothers Fight at the end of 2013. Catch them live in an intimate venue before they explode!

Asian Chairshot

Asian_Chairshot_Press_Photofa57be

Formed in 2011, Seoul, Korea’s Asian Chairshot took their name from a powerful (and very illegal) move done by many a professional wrestler to knock out their opponents – the famed “chair shot.” And just like a chair shot, the trio’s hard-hitting mix of psychedelic music, garage rock, and alt-rock usually has little trouble stopping people dead in their tracks. In December 2013, Asian Chairshot recorded their first full-length album. It was produced by Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder and engineered by Ryan Grostefon, who worked with Smashing Pumpkins on their 2012 Oceania disc. Asian Chairshot started off this year by receiving nominations for “Best Rock Album” and “Best Rock Song” at the 2014 Korean Music Awards. In March, they traveled to Singapore to perform at the Mosaic Music Festival. In May, they will be embarking on their first UK tour to play at Liverpool Sound City. “Korean rockers Asian Chairshot combine explosive guitars, bass and drum work with vocal melodies that are uniquely full of surprises.” – Music Weekly Asia
